LEPA'S STORY

Some of you would have met Lepa when, together with Maria and Jose,
she recently visited Sydney to attend World Youth Day and Brisbane
to help build the relationship between FPET and the Atabae community.
Lepa is one of the key members of the Atabae health services team and,
at our request wrote this short summary of her life.

Lepa conducting hearing test

Lepa at work doing a hearing test.

Hi, my name is Felicidade Pires and my nick name is Lepa. I was born on 30th August, 1985 at a small village up on the mountain behind Atabae. When I was born I did not take my breast milk from my mum but I just took Fabrik milk (tin condensed milk) and buffalo milk. At one year I ate same food as family.

The first time I went to school every day I was 6 years young. I did like to go to school. After I finished school at the mountain I left to go to the town Atabae in 1998 to continue my Junior High School. I went to my Senior High School at Colegio (College) Maliana in 2005.

After I finished my Senior High School I went to take a computer course for 3 months in Dili. After that I came home and didn't do anything for 4 months. I wanted to go to Dili but I cannot because my parents have not enough finance support.

In December, 2006 I heard a job vacancy for Health Service. I came to FPET to volunteer and straight after I got the first wage up till now.

I also introduce my family. My Parents name is father is Cipriano Baros and mother is Ermelinda Pires. We have six members 4 sister and 2 younger brothers.

My parents just do the garden and rice fields (farmers). They always support us to school until the Senior High School because my parents not enough finance to support us.

Thank you very much for who ever read my little story.

Sincerely Yours

Lepa
