FPET PROJECTS

Quite a lot of funds have been spent on basic building materials to repair and replace buildings that were damaged or destroyed in the lawless period prior to the withdrawal of the militia forces. A few of the buildings that have been or are being built are shown here.

A generator delivered for Aidabaslala

Deacon Gary Stone recently delivered generators to Aidabaslala and Rairobo with funds from the Enoggera Army Barracks and the St Vincent de Paul Society at Red Hill. He is pictured here with some local people at Aidabaslala. Like any other East Timorese gathering, you usually see lots of children because about half the population under 15.

Damlaran Clinic

A new clinic built at Damlaran with funds provided by the Ashgrove Marist College students St Vincent dePaul Society. It was not quite completed when this photo was taken in 2005.

Aidabeleten Chapel

A new chapel was built using local bush material as well as concrete and a corrugated iron roof. The chapel is often the only community building within a village.

Fishing canoe fitted with motor

One of several traditional fishing canoes that have been fitted with motors funded by FPET.

Chapel under construction

Another chapel under construction. Again this will be the main community building within this village.

Aidabeleten school

Aidabeleten village is located in the mountains and was without a school until FPET funded the construction of a small school there in 2005 so the young children could start school at the normal age.

The above photo taken in later 2005 shows students starting class even while the building had little more than foundations and a roof and was without desks or even the concrete floor. The school year starts in October in East Timor and all were keen to commence the school year on time. The school has three classes for the younger children while older children continue to walk to the next village for their schooling.
