This page shows a little of the activities of the Atabae World Youth Day pilgrims
in Brisbane and at World Youth Day in Sydney.

Sr Eufemia (an East Timorese nun serving the Brisbane based East Timorese community) met with the visitors to help their adjustment to Australian culture.

Some extra clothes were popular with the visitors who needed to adjust to the cold when they first went sight seeing at night in Brisbane.

Jose Asaca chatting with FPET Treasurer John Brady and Lyn and Deacon Gary Stone at a welcome BBQ for the East Timorese visitors to meet with members of FPET.

Some of the East Timorese visitors had reasonable English speaking skills but all appreciated having some extra English lessons.

Joel and Mary Hodge with Maria and Lepa among the crowd at WYD activities in Sydney.

There were many great moments at WYD and the raising of the cross on a clear Sydney evening was one of those moments.

Camping out overnight at Randwick in preparation for the final mass was another major WYD experience. Thankfully the whole week was fine although cool at night.

Back in Brisbane, our guests visited Loreto College students and their teacher Bill Kenny (front left) who have been helping fund health care for mothers and babies in Atabae.

Thanking Michael and Kate Knynenburg at The Gap Day & Night Pharmacy for their generous provision of pharmaceuticals for the Atabae Community Health Centre.

Gathered at Brisbane airport awaiting their flight back to East Timor at the end of their visit.
