YOUTH

This page recognises the importance of youth issues and activities in the relationships between the East Timorese and Australians. Youth from both countries have been very active in helping FPET members build relationships with the people of Atabae and more generally with the East Timorese, including those studying in Queensland.

Sam Hodge with the locals at Atabae

Sam Hodge first visited East Timor in early 2008. On that occasion he went with his brother Joel who has visited there a number of times since his first visit in 2003 which is mentioned above. Sam greatly enjoyed mixing with and getting to know the young people in Atabae and has since returned to Atabae in August 2008.
The next young visitors from Atabae were Jose, Maria and Lepa (pictured below) who came to Brisbane and World Youth Day in Sydney in 2008. They are all important members of our FPET team in Atabae. There is more information about them elsewhere on our site, including a separate page about each of them — Maria, Lepa and Jose.
